Happy 4th of July!!

Updated: Jul 4

You guys!!! It's the 4th of July weekend in the United States already! How is this summer flying by so quickly?! I want to bottle this up and make time stand still!

My birthday is during the last week in June, and every year, I am so excited for the 4th of July to come right after that! It is definitely in my top 5 favorite Holidays of the year.

I am so drawn to the red, white and blue colors, decorations, outfits, BBQ's, fireworks, festivals--

GIVE. ME. ALL. OF. IT!

My family thinks I take after my grandfather in this aspect. He was one of the most patriotic people you could ever meet! As a child, I remember, if he was going to spray paint some decorative item for his yard, it would be in the red, white and blue theme.

Eagles were one of his favorite animals and he carried his American Pride everywhere he went! You couldn't visit his home without seeing an American Flag displayed, not one, but several places inside and out. He was a proud former US Marine and we could all tell that he was proud to display those colors that represent our country. The same country that he spent an important part of his life fighting for.

I love this time of year because I too, consider myself patriotic and love this holiday that we can spend honoring that freedom that we gained back in 1776. I am proud to be an American and despite the troubles and challenges we face as a Country, I know we are capable of making that lasting change. When we can all finally decide to put aside our differences for the greater good of our country, we will begin to heal and can THEN fully experience the greatness that our forefathers fought so hard for in the quest for our Nation's Independence.

So, while you are out enjoying the sunshine (hopefully!), BBQ's, parades, and fireworks, make sure you spend some time reflecting on what it means to be an American. What is your duty as a citizen for this country? Are you putting in the work to make this a great place to live for ALL Americans? Or is there more you could be doing? Are you KIND to everyone you cross paths with? No matter who they are, what they look like, or how they live their life? Or is there more you could be doing? Are you OPEN to change for the greater good, more diversity, women and minority rights? Or is there more you could be doing?

My encouragement to you today is whether you're an American or not, we need to make this Country, this WORLD a safe space for all. Everyone needs to enjoy the same freedom to live. Everyone needs to be able to wake up and be proud to call this place home. Everyone needs to be able to walk down the street knowing his or her fellow Americans accept them, love them, and want the best for them. Afterall, our country is made up of the people-the human beings, that call it home. Physical land is not something that can change a way of life, but the people living on that land have the power to make life what they want of it.

So, this Independence Day, please make an intentional effort to afford the freedom of true independence to all your fellow Americans--make them feel welcome, heard, and cared about.
